The Marie Boe Building at the San Juan County Fairgrounds will receive a series of upgrades to increase it's capacity and usability as an Emergency Operations Center, viable rental space, community asset, and more.

The Department of Emergency Management received funding to update the building to a countywide Emergency Operations Center. Further funding opportunities, including a grant from the Washington State Department of Agriculture, were pursued to complete a holistic upgrade to the many uses the building sees every year. Renovations include:

  • Four restrooms and two showers. As a facility that sees frequent rental use, this project will add ADA bathrooms and value to the space.
  • Storage space. Secure storage for adequate and appropriate placement of tables and chairs will keep them clear of the rented area when not needed.
  • New roof, siding, and covered entryway. Main entrance on the west side will have a concrete pad and covered entry.
  • Demonstration plazas. The east side will have a plaza for 4-H Demonstrations.
  • HVAC. The building will have both heat and air conditioning provided by heat pumps.
  • Appropriate audio/visual hook-ups and a new sound system. Existing projector has been relocated for presentations and meetings, and a new sound system installed.
  • LED lighting. Money saving lighting with longer lifetime bulbs that use less electricity. The lights are on dimmers and smaller rooms have motion sensors so if lights are accidentally left on they will automatically turn themselves off.
  • Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The new County EOC will have a private entrance and storage area, and be connected to the generator.
